Vintage Embellishments

Pressed flowers are beautiful and delightful to use in decorating scrapbook pages and card making crafts. If you love flowers, these wonderful embellishments will appeal to you. They are made simply using dimensional glue as pictured in the photo below.

Tips for making Vintage Embellishments with dried flowers:

  • ensure that the flower petals are completely dry before using them
  • dry arrange the petals and / or greens on your card or scrapbook page
  • once you are happy with the arrangement place a small dot of dimensional glue beneath each piece.
  • when everything is secured begin squeezing dimensional glue over the entire surface of the flower petals and leaves if you have them.
  • allow this to dry for up to 24 hours (It doesn’t usually take quite that long, but you want to be sure it is totally dry before it gets any papers stacked on it or before it goes into an envelope!)

This techniques creates shiny, dimensional elements on your pages and card making projects!.

Please note that if you bend the paper after the dimensional glue has dried, some brands will crack.

You may wish to enhance the theme of dried flowers by using Pressed Flowers clear hobby rubber stamps to decorate additional elements and add interest to your rubber stamping projects.

Happy Stamping!!!

‘Sentimental Sailing’ Card Making Tutorial

This is a fabulously creative card made in the shape of a sailboat. The part of the card that opens is actually the sail. You can use this card making idea for kids cards and personalize them with your clear hobby rubber stamps for almost any occasion! Learn how…

Materials Needed to Make this Card:

To Make This Card:

  1. Cut out sailboat pieces from the template. We have cut 2 mats for our sailboat – one in green and one in orange.
  2. Fold the corner of the white cardstock over so that it is large enought to cut out the large sail. Place the long side of the larger sail on the fold and trace. Cut from the folded edge outward on both edges to prevent buckling of the cardstock.
  3. Trace templates onto pattern paper and begin securing them to the orange sailboat mat. Secure the boat base, small sail and flag.
  4. Take the folded white cardstock and stamp the birthday sayings onto the top side of the sail. Alternate ink colors as desired. We have used the happy birthday words from the Garden Box Set Clear Stamp set and the birthday words  Clear rubber stamp. Add a geometric shape as desired. Fasten the large sail in place and secure it well as this is the interactive part of the card.
  5. Using a large button, position the button just to the side of the edge of the folded sail so that when the button is fastened to the card it will hold down the sail. Punch the holes through the paper and secure the button in place with wire  (twisted shut on the back) or with string.
  6. Add additional buttons as desired to embellish the card.
  7. Stamp or write your personal note inside the sail and mat the card with the green sailboat shaped cardstock. Place inside the envelope and it is ready to give to someone special!

That is it – a fun adorable card creation! Happy Stamping!

Carving Erasers into Rubber Stamps

WOW! I was able to attend a fun class a short time ago. In it I learned how to carve a basic vinyl eraser into a rubber stamp! It was so much fun!!! This is a handy skill to have when you need a certain stamp but don’t have one. I was amazed at the detail a person can put into their carvings.

Here is what I learned. First, you need to be sure that your eraser is perfectly flat and smooth so you sand one side of it with a fine sand paper.

Next draw your design onto the eraser. This can easily be done by first drawing it onto a paper, then outlining the drawing with pencil. To transfer the image simply turn it upside down onto the eraser and rub the back with a popsicle stick or something similar. When you lift the paper you will have a fabulous image to carve.

To carve you use a craft knife. Try to keep the knife moving in one flowing motion. When you are holding the knife be sure to slant it away from the image so you have support for the stamp once your are done carving.

Carve away the edges first then begin working in the detail on the design. Remember that even a hairline scratch will leave it’s mark when stamping so you don’t have to groove out the details very deep.

Experiment with this technique and explore your creative ideas.

The down side for me, when doing this was that once I started stamping, I couldn’t see where I was placing the image. I love my clear stamps and their transparent qualities. You can’t beat being able to see where you are stamping.

Below are some photo’s of my completed erasers carved into rubber stamps.

IMG_9443Here is a basic card made with the above set.

IMG_9444Here are some miscellaneous stamps I made and the stamped results.

IMG_9442IMG_9445IMG_9446IMG_9447Because I did not have all my stamping inks with me the colors are off a little. I would have preferred a deep red for the cherries and a lighter green for the pear. However, it was a lot of fun.

Just a note about your eraser carved stamps. Erasers hold the color of the ink once they have been used. You need to clean them just as you would your clear stamps. However, the color on them will stay. As long as you clean them right after using them, you will not have colors carrying over to your next stamping project.

Happy Stamping!
