Twist Cards

The twist card is a fabulous card for making invitations as well as fun greetings for any occasion! The center of this card actually flips over as you open the card! If you follow the basic tips and tricks below, you will find this card to be a fascinatingly simple design to create!

First of all, the following video will help you better visualize what this card does. It is 9 seconds long.

Tips for making this card:

  • Create the inside panel first! Mat it if you like and then fasten it securely and squarely onto your sturdy cardstock. Do NOT mount it any closer to the edges than 1″ leaving more if possible.
  • Next cut on the solid lines around your matted element as indicated in the template image above. Please note that there is no cut made between the two fold lines. In order to get your fold lines in the right place ensure that your first fold line is positioned exactly half way across the distance of your matted element.
  • The fold lines should be positioned at least 1″ apart and more if your design element is large.
  • Carefully fold your card and trim to size as desired.
  • Decorate the face of your card to introduce the contents as desired using clear hobby rubber stamps and scrapbooking supplies.

Embossing with Multiple Colors

This has become a favorite heat embossing technique!!! It involves using 3-5 embossing powders per design. Learn how to do this super simple but absolutely beautiful technique on your own!

MATERIALS NEEDED TO DO THIS TECHNIQUE:

  • clear hobby rubber stamp – medium to large design
  • 3-5 embossing powders
  • heat embossing gun
  • cardstock, glass, metal or other stamping medium that is safe to heat emboss on
  • embossing ink
  • clear acrylic stamping block

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Peel your clear acrylic stamp from the carrier sheet and place it on the clear stamping block.
  2. Ink the design in the embossing ink and stamp the image onto your surface. If your design requires more than one impression of the image, so all the impressions before proceeding to the next step.
  3. Sprinkle tiny amounts of embossing powder onto the impression(s). Dump off the excess being careful to not allow the powders to slide around too much. Repeat this step with each embossing color you wish to use, covering a small portion of the image with teach color.
  4. Heat the powders and watch them blend together with fascinating results.
  5. With that the embossing portion of your project is complete.
Happy Stamping!!!

Crafts that Feel

I love crafts – especially if they involve cute paper, sentimental thoughts or ideas, and allow for additional embellishments that help me make the project uniquely mine. The craft was called the ‘FAMILY’ Framed Project and the finished project looked like this…

I love what my clear hobby rubber stamps did for this project. Before stamping additional words and embellishments, it looked like this…

I love what fun words, flowers and sayings can do for a craft! If you would like to be able to make this craft the instructions are below….

MATERIALS NEEDED:

  • Background:  1 – 12×12 sheet of cardstock – your choice of color
  • Matts: 2 – 12×12 sheets of black cardstock
  • Patterned Paper: 8-10 different sheets of scrapbook paper in your color scheme
  • Embellishments: Ribbon, flowers, brads, eyelets, clips, beads, charms  etc in your choice of style and color
  • Glue stick and or photo mounting squares
  • Letters F A M I L Y either cut from cardstock or chipboard
For a 12 x 12 project (framed in a 14″ square frame) you will need:
  • 1 12×12 background paper
  • 9 – 3 1/4″ x 3 1/4″ squares in coordinating designs
  • 9 – 3 1/2″ x 3 1/2″ squares in matting color
Decorate each square as desired. Letters can be enhanced by tying ribbon around the back or by adding a paper flower.
Then the real fun begins, using either clear alphabet stamps, or words, sayings or sentiments clear rubber stamps, add fun words, thoughts and ideas to each letter square on your project. Once you are happy with the result arrange squares evenly on background paper and secure them into place.
Happy Stamping!!!

Paper Stitching with Rubber Stamps

I have a friend that makes a lot of beautiful cards with paper stitching techniques. As a result I have fiddled with it a little. Recently I decided to make up one of my own designs using one of my favorite clear stamps. You can find a Rose set of clear stamps here.

Here is how it turned out.IMG_1718If you are unfamiliar with paper stitching, it is really quite simple. It is similar to the string art we used to do in the 70′s.

First punch the holes with a needle or pin along your design. Using an image, I simply punched holes along the edges of the design at evenly spaced intervals. Be careful not to get them too close together or they will merge together when you are stitching.

Next choose a colored thread. If you have metallic threads they are really pretty to use. Thread a small needle and insert it into the first hole on the back side of the design. Secure the end of the string with a small piece of tape.

If you were working a circle, you would next choose how many holes to skip, for example 10. Now put your threaded needle through the tenth hole from where you came up. Keep working around the circle always working 10 spaces apart until you have completed the design. You should end up with something like the circles in this design:

IMG_8236When your thread runs out simply tape the end down on the back and start a new strand. It’s fun and easy. Try a few of your own designs and see how you like it.

Happy Stamping & Stitching!

Hand Stamped Bulletin Boards

A couple of weeks ago I was asked to please do the bulletin board at  church. It would need a section for activities, birthdays and announcements. I was given some hand made tissue paper to use to cover the background and told I could do whatever I wanted with it from there.

It didn’t take long to get my creative juices flowing, and with the fun clear rubber stamps that I have and love using, I began to see the finished project in my mind. That was all it took. I went straight to my stamping desk and began stamping.

First I made three tags – one for each of the three sections of the bulletin board. I used some of my favorite Clear Alphabet Stamps and another stamp that gave me the words ‘Happy’ and ‘To You’ from the Happy Day Topper Clear Stamp Set.

birthdaytagThis is one of the tags after it was on the bulletin board. Each tag was outlined using a border clear rubber stamp. I loved that the stamp was clear so I could see exactly where to place it to line up the corners. I used a scrap piece of paper to cover any area that I didn’t want the line to extend into, that way the border doesn’t extend beyond where I wanted it. I embellished each tag with blue flower shaped gems and punched a hole for ribbon in the end. That finished the tags.

The next step was to put it all together. I layered the hand made tissue paper onto the bulletin board. I had some cream colored paper twist ribbon which I untwisted and placed on the bulletin board as a horizontal element. Once in place I used tiny Clear Alphabet Stamps to stamp the words “Faith Hope Charity” randomly on the ribbon and thus establish a theme for the project.

papertwist-stampingYou can see some of the stamped words on the ribbon in the above photo.

The next step was to divide the bulletin board into the required sections. To do this I cut white card stock into 1-1/2″ strips and made two rectangular frames with the sides going under the horizontal paper twist ribbon. Now I was ready to stamp again. I used border clear stamps to create a matching element with the tags. It is a little tricky stamping images onto a bulletin board. I had to be sure to have a chair so I could be directly over where I was placing the stamp.

stampedborderThis photo shows one corner of a rectangular section and kind of gives you an idea of what I did. With the borders in place I was ready for the next step. I made 3 paper twist bows, (I could have stamped on these as well but didn’t) one for each section of the board and attached them with staples. I added a tag to each ribbon as you can see in the above photo and secured it in place with staples. The birthdays are written on little flower pots that sit on the paper twist horizontal ribbon.

The last thing I did before I called it done was to stamp the theme onto an 8-1/2 x 11″ piece of card stock using the ‘Awesome ABC’s’ Alphabet stamps. I placed a matching border around the edge of the theme as well using my border clear rubber Stamp. I finished it with a ribbon placed through slits in the border. Then I attached a ‘Double Whirl’ ribbon clip onto the ribbon. To embellish it even further I tied more ribbon onto the ribbon clip as shown in the following photo.

ribbonclipsIt was a fun project, though it took a fair bit of time. I found it an enjoyable challenge to use my stamps for an application other than the usual scrapbooking and card making crafts (though I love those too)! I am looking forward to my next creative challenge.
